Guide prices

Side and garden gates

£900 to £1,500

A single gate, fabricated and fitted. The lock, the finish, a fixed panel and an arched top decide where it falls.

Driveway gates

£1,800 to £5,000+

Fabricated and fitted. The width, the style, and the specification decide where it falls.

Width of the opening — the biggest single factor, and what decides between a single gate, a pair and a sliding gate.

Newer homes — a composite replacement for a pine side gate that has started to drop.

Village centres — simple gates that suit old brick in Croston and Eccleston.

Canal-side gardens — a private, lockable gate onto the towpath.

Guide prices only. Your provisional price is worked out from your photos and measurements.

What Chorley asks of a gate

Buckshaw Village and the newer estates

Buckshaw Village has grown on the old ordnance factory site into one of the biggest new communities in Lancashire, and the estates around Euxton and Whittle-le-Woods have grown with it. Most homes there came with a pine side gate that is now dropping at the latch end. Swapping it for composite on welded steel means one less thing to treat every spring. Some of these estates have rules about front boundaries, so read your deeds before planning anything beyond the side gate.

Croston, Eccleston and the old village centres

Croston's old centre, with its packhorse bridge and brick cottages, is a conservation area, and the older parts of Eccleston and the villages around have the same mix of old brick and low walls. A simple gate at the height of the wall, in a dark frame, sits best on those streets. In Croston, check with Chorley Council before you order.

Back gardens on the canal

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs past Adlington, Heath Charnock, Botany Bay and Wheelton, and plenty of gardens back straight onto the towpath. A gate there faces walkers, cyclists and anglers all day, so it wants a full-height boarded face for privacy, a lock you can open from the towpath side with a key, and a frame that will not rot where the ground stays damp beside the water.

Boards and frame colours

Composite boards

Board ranges vary from one fabricator to another, but they can fit almost any make. If you have seen a board you like, send the name or a photo and the fabricator will tell you whether it can be used.

Steel frames

Frames can be powder coated in almost any RAL colour. Black and anthracite grey are the usual choices, but a frame can be matched to your windows or doors.

FAQs about Composite Gates in Chorley

How much do composite gates cost in Chorley?

As a guide, a single side or garden gate is around £900 to £1,500 fabricated and fitted, and a pair of driveway gates runs from around £1,800 to £5,000 or more. The width, the exposure, the lock and the finish all move it. Send photos and a width for a provisional price for your opening.

My new-build side gate is already dropping. Can it be replaced?

Yes. A composite gate on a welded steel frame is made to fit the existing gap, and it will not need treating each year.

I live in Croston. Do I need permission for gates?

Possibly, as the old centre is a conservation area. Check with Chorley Council first.

Can I have a gate onto the canal towpath?

Usually, if one is already allowed at the back of your garden. It can be fully boarded for privacy, with a key lock from the towpath side and a thumb-turn inside.

Why do you ask for photos before visiting?

The fabricators on our network cover a wide area, so a visit can mean a long round trip. Photos and a rough width let them give you a provisional price first, and the visit to measure only happens once you are happy with it. You are not waiting in for someone only to find the price does not suit.

Do you cover Buckshaw Village, Euxton and Adlington?

Yes, along with Whittle-le-Woods, Coppull, Eccleston, Croston and the villages around them. If you are not sure about your street, send your postcode and we will confirm.
