Guide prices

Side and garden gates

£900 to £1,500

A single gate, fabricated and fitted. The lock, the finish, an arched top and finials decide where it falls.

Driveway gates

£1,800 to £5,000+

Fabricated and fitted. The width, the exposure, the ground and the specification decide where it falls.

Width of the opening — the biggest single factor, and what decides between a single gate, a pair and a sliding gate.

Wind and salt — a galvanised frame, stainless fixings and stronger posts on the front.

The ground — sandy ground needs deeper, wider post footings than clay.

A matching set — driveway gates, a pedestrian gate and fence panels made together.

Guide prices only. Your provisional price is worked out from your photos and measurements.

What Blackpool asks of a gate

Wind straight off the sea

Along the front, from South Shore up through Bispham to Cleveleys and round to St Annes, nothing stands between a gate and the westerlies coming off the Irish Sea. A fully boarded gate catches that wind like a sail, so on the coast the frame and posts are sized for it, and a pair gets a drop bolt so it stays shut. A good latch matters more here than anywhere: a gate left on the catch in a westerly will slam. Salt comes in on the same wind, so frames near the front are galvanised before they are powder coated, with stainless fixings.

Sandy ground on the Fylde

The Fylde coast is flat and much of it sits on sand. Posts set in sand need deeper, wider concrete footings than the same posts in clay, or over a few years a heavy gate pulls them out of true and starts to drag. The fabricator will check what the ground is like on the visit, and it is one reason a gate post here is not something to skimp on.

Bungalows and low front walls

Bispham, Norbreck, Cleveleys, Thornton and Poulton have a lot of bungalows behind low front walls, and a tall solid gate can look out of scale against them. A gate at or just above wall height usually sits better, and anything up to a metre high next to a road needs no planning permission. Where there is a driveway and a path, the driveway gates, the pedestrian gate and any fence panels can all be made together so they match, like the set at the top of this page.

Boards and frame colours

Composite boards

Board ranges vary from one fabricator to another, but they can fit almost any make. If you have seen a board you like, send the name or a photo and the fabricator will tell you whether it can be used.

Steel frames

Frames can be powder coated in almost any RAL colour, over a galvanised finish near the front. Black suits most boards, but a frame can be matched to your windows or doors.

FAQs about Composite Gates in Blackpool

How much do composite gates cost in Blackpool?

As a guide, a single side or garden gate is around £900 to £1,500 fabricated and fitted, and a pair of driveway gates runs from around £1,800 to £5,000 or more. The width, the exposure, the ground, hinged or sliding, and the finish all move it. Send photos and a width for a provisional price for your opening.

Will a solid gate cope with the wind on the front?

Yes, if it is built for it. On the coast the frame and posts are sized for the wind load, a pair gets a drop bolt, and the latch is chosen to hold. Say how close you are to the front when you send your photos.

Does sandy ground make a difference?

It does. Posts in sandy ground need deeper, wider concrete footings than in clay, or a heavy gate can pull them out of line over time. The fabricator checks the ground on the visit.

Can you match driveway gates, a front gate and a fence panel?

Yes. Made together, the boards, frame colour and finials all match, and the tops can be set to line up. Send photos of the whole frontage.

Why do you ask for photos before visiting?

The fabricators on our network cover a wide area, so a visit can mean a long round trip. Photos and a rough width let them give you a provisional price first, and the visit to measure only happens once you are happy with it. You are not waiting in for someone only to find the price does not suit.

Do you cover Lytham St Annes and Fleetwood?

Yes, along with Bispham, Cleveleys, Thornton, Poulton-le-Fylde, Kirkham and the villages across the Fylde. If you are not sure about your street, send your postcode and we will confirm.

Only a few subtle changes to you gates will be required but it will be much easier and cost effective to have this done at the point of fabrication. Simply let us know of these are your plans.

Depending on your preferences, and sometimes due to the incline of your driveway, you will have either a swing or sliding gate but both options can be automated. The sliding option can be applied to a single gate or both gates opening from the middle outwards. Electric Gates Blackpool

Electric gates offer a variety of control options that enhance accessibility, security, and convenience.

Remote Control: Remote control is one of the most popular and convenient options for operating electric gates. It allows users to open and close the gates with the press of a button from a distance. Remote control systems typically come with a handheld transmitter, which can be attached to a keychain for easy access. Some remote controls even offer multiple channels, allowing users to control multiple gates or devices with a single remote.

Keypad Entry: Keypad entry systems are another common control option for electric gates. These systems require users to enter a code on a keypad mounted near the gate to open it. Keypad entry offers added security as only authorised persons with the correct code can access the property but if you have a large family or numerous authorise people requiring regular access to your property this is a practical option. With keypad systems It is always worth thinking about selecting one with programmable codes, enabling you to change the code periodically for added security.

Intercom System: An intercom system allows users to communicate with visitors at the gate before granting access. When a visitor arrives, they can press a button on the intercom to speak to the homeowner or property owner. The homeowner can then remotely open the gates using a control panel or a mobile app. Intercom systems are ideal for controlling access to gated communities, residential complexes, or commercial properties. For domestic use it is probably worth combining this option with another entry option for regular users and if there is no-one at the other end of the intercom unless you combine this with:

Mobile App Control: With advancements in technology, many electric gate systems now offer mobile app control. This allows users to open and close their gates using a smartphone or tablet from anywhere in the world. Mobile app control is convenient for homeowners who want to grant access remotely to guests, service providers, or delivery personnel. Some mobile apps also offer features such as real-time gate status notifications such as motion detection and access logs for added security.

Timer Control: Timer control systems allow users to program specific times for the gates to open and close automatically. This is useful for homeowners who have regular schedules and want their gates to open and close at specific times of the day. Timer control is generally a handy option for businesses that operate on fixed hours and want their gates to open and close automatically without manual intervention.

Vehicle Detection System: A vehicle detection system uses sensors to detect vehicles approaching the gates and automatically opens them. This is a convenient option for homeowners who want seamless entry and exit without the need for manual control. However, it is more common for commercial businesses to allow selected vehicles to gain access easily. However, a vehicle detection system will be required to identify specific vehicles, such as number plate recognition so that specific cars or delivery trucks can enter, while remaining closed for unauthorised vehicles.

Metal Gates Blackpool

Whilst our main focus is on the growing trend of composite gates our local fabricator can provide the same measure, make and install service for metal gates too. Metal garden gates only or wrought iron gates still remain a popular choice for property entrances. They provide a distinctive character and create a more open and transparent view of the garden behind - which if this is a key requirement a metal gate will be ideal. This is particularly true for gates with standard vertical bars. As your metal gates will be bespoke to your requirements your local fabricator can offer a wide range of garden and driveway metal gates. The most common sizes include 6-foot gates for side entrances and 3- to 4-foot gates for small front gardens. For metal driveway gates the height will often be 6-foot or more with an arch plus fleur de lis toppers, with width entrance gaps typically between 8 to 12-foot.  To ensure a precise fit, we will visit the site to take exact measurements and identify the necessary fixing points before giving a final price.

Most metal gates are typically finished with black powder-coated paint. However, if you require a different finish, please inform us. Additionally, the top of a metal gate can be designed more decoratively rather than simply featuring a flat bar. you can select from the various gate top finials available that can be added to the top of the gate or between the bars. These ornamental sections can also be finished in different colours, primarily gold, silver, or occasionally red. The most common ornamental topping is a spear, followed by a ball topping, which is less imposing.
